Book is in good condition with one ding on upper edge less than 3 mm, corners not bumped, light wear. Printed note card stating "The compliments of Herbert Hoover" with secretarial note "to Al. Burnnier" penned on the card has been taped to fly page. Original tape removed leaving stains. The card has subsequently been re-taped to fly sheet. Some staining has also transferred to inside front cover. Binding tight. Pages crisp, clean. True First Edition with red cover. Scribners A. Hoover, Herbert Typed Letter Signed (TLS) Herbert Hoover
Unknown 1964 No Binding Fine: Signed by President Typed Letter SIGNED by President Herbert Hoover in blue pen on his personal stationery 7-1/4" by 10-1/2". "Herbert Hoover" imprinted on top center of stationery, Crane's crest bond paper. Dated " Waldorf Astoria Towers/ New York, New York/ August 10, 1958" (Hoover's 84th birthday). President Hoover resided at the Waldorf Astoria following his wife's death in 1944 until his death in 1964. HH writes: "My dear Helen:/ I appreciate your birthday greetings. But they require more than a formal acknowledgment./ The information is that you are the best Camp manager we ever had!/ With kind regards,/ Yours faithfully,/ 'Herbert Hoover'/ Miss Helen Boyle/ 2235 Laguna Street/ San Francisco 15, California". Miss Boyle was secretary to Mr. A. C. Mattei, of the Honolulu Oil Company, who had a close relationship with President Hoover. Miss Boyle would help the former president with secretarial duties related to his philanthropic efforts with the Boys' Club of America and the Bohemian Club. This letter acknowledges Miss Boyle's duties in relation to the annual Bohemian Club retreat at the Bohemian Grove in Monte Rio, California. Letter tri-folded for mailing. Bottom fold crosses tail of "r" in Hoover. Includes original post-marked envelope. Price:
